IAFL Mills & Reeve Travel Studentship Winner 2019

IAFL are delighted to announce the winner of the IAFL Mills & Reeve Travel Studentship for 2019.
The selection panel was made up of Caitlin Jenkins (IAFL Fellow, Mills & Reeve) and IAFL Associate Fellows Dr Jens Scherpe and Joanna Miles, both of Cambridge University Faculty of Law.
The number of applications for the studentship was the highest ever. Each applicant submitted an essay on a family law topic, and a reference from their Director of Studies. Five applications were shortlisted and the applicants interviewed by the selection panel in April.
The panel was unanimous in choosing Amber Turner as the winner of the Studentship this year. Amber is in her second year studying Law at Cambridge University, Pembroke College. Her essay was entitled “Should English Law adopt the Australian approach to shared parenting post-separation?”. The panel agreed that Amber is definitely a very good student with a desire and willingness to learn and an aptitude for adventure. Amber demonstrated emotional maturity and was socially outgoing, and was self-motivated with a degree of independence. Furthermore, the panel felt that Amber might not otherwise have the opportunity for international travel.
IAFL are currently polling our Fellows to identify those who would be willing and able to host Amber for a 3 week studentship during the summer of 2019.
