Prizewinning Essay for European Chapter
Posted: 30 May 2013
The third IAML European Chapter Annual Award for Young Family Lawyers has been awarded to Claire Wood of London firm Kingsley Napley LLP. Claire is pictured receiving her prize from panel chair Fredric Renström and panel member Tim Amos QC at the IAML European Chapter meeting in Salzburg in May 2013.
Claire's prizewinning essay answered the question:
"The technical problems, and possible solutions, in drafting international marriage contracts and pre-nuptial agreements"
(Is it possible to devise a pre-nuptial agreement which will prove effective throughout Europe - identify positives and pitfalls?
Whether from your national standpoint European family law may at present appear to be converging or diverging, what minimum requirements for an effective international pre-nuptial agreement would you stipulate: please include examples of draft provisions you consider universally acceptable and desirable?)
A panel of IAML Fellows had to choose between eight essays submitted on this set topic. Claire was invited to the European Chapter Meeting in Salzburg with travel costs and attendance costs met where she was presented with her prize of €1,000.
Two runner-up prizes of €500 were also awarded to Lily Mottahedan of 1 Hare Court Chambers, London, England and Markus Krapf of Zürich, Switzerland.
This year's essay subject will be publicised shortly with a view to having the essays submitted in the Autumn. This is a great opportunity for any young family lawyer looking to become more involved with international family law work.
