Prizewinning Essay for European Chapter
Posted: 8 Mar 2012
The second IAML European Chapter Annual Award for Young Family Lawyers has been awarded to Nicholas Bennett of London firm Farrer and Co. Nicholas' prizewinning essay answered the question:
Outlines for a draft EU Regulation for a brave new world: harmonised matrimonial finance
If you were responsible for drafting such a regulation, what elements would you see as fundamental to that exercise and, in particular, how would you solve the conceptual difficulty of harmonising divergent cultural approaches to the issue of spousal maintenance so as to maximise the prospects for Europe-wide support?
A panel of IAML fellows had to choose between five essays submitted on this set topic. The winner is invited to the European Chapter Meeting in Crete with travel costs and attendance costs met plus a cash prize of €1,000.
The panel is looking to publicise this year's essay subject shortly after the Crete meeting with a view to having the essays submitted in the Autumn. This is a great opportunity for any young family lawyer looking to become more involved with international family law work.
