IAML and Global Justice Initiative partnership

Posted: 22 Mar 2011

At the annual meeting in South Beach the IAML-USA Chapter entered into a Memo of Understanding with Global Justice Initiative, see attached document.

The United States State Department, our central authority for all cases involving The Hague and international child abduction, has requested assistance in establishing mediation of international child abduction matters.

We had a lively debate at our annual meeting on the efficacy of such an approach to resolution of these difficult matters.  Melissa Kucinski, founder of Global Justice Initiative, www.globalinitiative.org, spoke to us on international mediation and addressed the Board of Managers about the goals of collaboration between the IAML-USA chapter and her non-profit organization.

While there are many potential barriers to effective international mediation the Board of Managers unanimously affirmed our collaborative relationship.  Chair of our Hague Committee, Larry Katz, will be working with Melissa on behalf of our organization.  IAML Fellows should let Larry know if they are interested in working on this project.
